生後３週間の第３世代稚魚

第２世代（最初の繁殖）のページで紹介したCyathopharynx foae の自家繁殖個体を親魚とする第３世代（generation 3: G3）が誕生しました。親としたG2は生後約１年で繁殖可能な状態まで成熟していたと思いますが、繁殖用水槽が準備出来たのはさらに約半年後です。
Here I report on the birth of the 3rd generation of my Cyathopharynx foae "Moliro". The parental fish in this page were also bred in my tank. The birth and growth of the parental fish are shown in another page, Generation 2 (First breeding). I saw they got maturated enough for reproduction in one year after their birth, but I set the breeding tank after another half year.
約25匹のG2の中からメス３、オス１を選んで繁殖用水槽に移しました。水槽は90 x 45 x 45 cm、画像の通りのフィルターでリング状濾材使用、底砂は田砂。
From about 25 individuals, I selected three females and one male, and transferred them into a tank with the dimension of 90 x45 x 45 cm. The sand used is called Rice-Field Sand. The bottom of rice field in Japan is muddy, but you can get fine sand by washing out the small particles of mud. This sand is sold as water plant sand.

上の４匹で何度も産卵しましたが、毎回数日の内に卵はなくなってしまいました。オスが追いかけるためかも知れないと思い、オスを別水槽に移しましたが結果は同じです。また、メスがガラス面に激突したときに口内で卵が割れて鰓から白い液体が出てくることもありましたが、毎回これで卵が死んでいたとは思えません。
Though they spawned several times, every time the females kept eggs I found the eggs disappeared within one or two weeks.
上の話と矛盾しますが、他に思いつかないのでオスを画像の個体に入れ替えてみることにしました。この個体は他のオスと口同士で噛み合ってねじ伏せ合うような喧嘩をよくするため、唇が腫れ上がって曲がっています。
So I changed the male. The new one is the strongest with the lip swollen owing to aggressive fighting.
オスを入れ替えた後の産卵では1−2週間しても卵をくわえ続けていたので、他の魚を全て別水槽に移し、親の口から自然に稚魚が出てくるのを待つことにしました。産卵後38日で稚魚が一斉に吐き出されました。G2誕生からG3誕生までは２年。画像は吐き出した直後のものです。ヨークサックがあるうちに強制的に吐かせたものと違って、かなり痩せています。一度稚魚を吐いた後の親魚は、子供には全く興味を示さないようでしたので別水槽に移しました。
Just after the male replacement, one female kept eggs. As this time the eggs were maintained longer than two weeks, I removed other fish and waited for the fry to come out voluntary. Thirty eight days after the spawning, the fry came out all together. Because the mother fish looked unconcerned about the babies any longer, I removed the female from the tank.

３週間後、かなり体高が出てきました。餌は冷凍のベビーブラインと砕いたフレーク。ガラス面の藻を剥がしてやるとよく食べています。この水槽には巻貝が湧いていますが、死んだ巻貝の身を啄んだりもしています。
Three weeks later.
約10週間後。大きいものは全長4cm。
Ten weeks. The biggest got to 4 cm.
約４ヶ月後。群の中で最大級の個体、全長約7cm。左右は同一個体。
Four months. The biggest got to 7 cm.
約６ヶ月後。たぶん上と同一の個体。テリトリーの主張と同時に発色が始まりました。飼育の中でもワクワクする瞬間のひとつです。
Six months. The biggest started to develop the color. Compared with the second and smaller fish like shown in the right photo, the dominant one got more body depth. I observed it in the previous breeding as well.
群れの中でNo.2くらいの個体。こちらも発色の兆候。左右の個体の体形の違いに注意して下さい。G2の群れでもそうでしたが、最強の個体だけは他よりも体高が出てしまいます。
約７ヶ月後。（左）最大の個体。（右）No.2の個体。どちらもまだ全長8cm程度ですが、もうクレーターを造り始めています。水槽内での累代が進むにつれて早熟になるのでしょうか。画像のようにクレーターはまだ小さく形も良くありません。
Seven months. They began making a small crater.
生後１年７ヶ月。１匹のメスが産卵、卵をくわえました。
One year and seven months. One female is keeping eggs in her mouth.
発色したオス。
The No.1 male shows the color.
２年３ヶ月。ヒレが伸びました。
Two years and three months.
3年。Three years.
3年半。Three years and a half after the birth.
4年。上とは別個体。
Four years after the birth. Another individual.
上と同一個体。The same fish as above.
もう孫世代が育っていますが、まだ産卵します。
Still oviposits, though this female has grandchildren.
